Portia Bruner Is Turning Storytelling Into Impact

Journalist. Talk show host. Mental health advocate. Visual artist. Portia Bruner has built a career around one powerful thing: the courage to tell stories that matter.

For decades, Portia has used the power of storytelling to help people feel seen, heard and understood. Her career in television journalism has taken her from breaking news and government affairs to natural disasters and deeply personal human-interest stories. Yet behind every headline and every story has always been something greater—the people.

For Portia, storytelling has never simply been about delivering information. It has been about connection, compassion and honoring the people who trust her to share their experiences.

In 2022, Portia stepped into a new chapter of her career, transitioning from the FOX 5 Atlanta news desk to become the host of Portia. The nationally distributed talk show created a space for meaningful conversations centered around real people, real experiences, positivity and purpose.

It was a new seat and a bigger conversation, but the same powerful voice.

Through her platform, Portia continues to approach storytelling with curiosity and compassion, creating the type of conversations that remind people they are not alone. That connection became even more personal as Portia began speaking openly about her own experiences with depression, anxiety and psychogenic stuttering.

Rather than hiding the difficult chapters of her journey, she made the courageous decision to share them. Her transparency surrounding therapy, prayer, meditation and intentional self-care became part of her purpose and a reminder of the importance of caring for our mental and emotional well-being.

But Portia's storytelling does not stop when the cameras turn off.

Sometimes, her stories live on a canvas.

As a visual artist, Portia discovered painting as a form of art therapy and creative expression. Through acrylic and mixed-media artwork, she found another way to process emotion, create beauty and communicate the things that words cannot always capture. Her artwork has also been featured in Atlanta gallery exhibitions.

Whether she is behind a news desk, sitting across from a guest, speaking to an audience or standing in front of a canvas with a paintbrush in hand, Portia Bruner continues to use her voice, creativity and experiences to inspire and empower others.

She is a journalist. A talk show host. A mental health advocate. An artist. And a storyteller in every sense of the word.

This is what it looks like when storytelling becomes impact.

This is culture. This is Portia Bruner.
