Thread Beauty: The $8 Brand Worth Rediscovering

Thread Beauty entered the beauty space with a bold point of view: makeup should be expressive, inclusive, uncomplicated and accessible. With its signature turquoise packaging and every product priced at just $8, the brand created an affordable way for beauty lovers to experiment without feeling like every new product has to be an investment.

Recently, Thread Beauty founder Melissa Butler opened up about the brand and shared an honest look at some of the realities that come with building and sustaining a beauty business. She spoke candidly about considering what the future of Thread could look like and the encouragement she received from Target to keep moving forward. Her vulnerability opened the door to a much bigger conversation about what it takes for an affordable, Black-founded beauty brand to grow, connect with consumers and remain visible in an industry that is constantly changing.

It also made us wonder how many beauty lovers simply haven’t discovered Thread yet.

Thread has built much of its identity around Gen Z, but affordable, uncomplicated makeup doesn’t belong to just one generation. Millennial beauty lovers in their 30s and 40s are looking for many of the same things: complexion products that actually consider our skin tones, everyday essentials that are easy to use, fun products that allow us to express ourselves and prices that don’t make a quick beauty run feel like a major investment.

For Black beauty consumers especially, complexion has historically been one of the biggest frustrations in the beauty aisle. Finding products that understand deeper skin tones and undertones has not always been a given, particularly at an accessible price point. That makes brands intentionally creating options for us worth discovering and supporting.

There’s also something refreshing about a brand that reminds us that makeup can simply be fun. Beauty has become filled with luxury launches, viral products, complicated routines and constantly changing trends, but sometimes we just want a good complexion product, a pretty gloss or a new lip color without spending $40 to find out whether we like it.

That’s where Thread has an opportunity to connect with even more of us. The brand doesn’t necessarily need to become something completely different. Maybe more of us just need to discover what’s already there.

So, is Thread Beauty worth another look? HELL YES!!

There is room for Thread to continue speaking to Gen Z while welcoming millennials and other beauty lovers into the conversation too. Inclusive products, expressive beauty and accessible pricing can speak to all of us, regardless of the generation we belong to.

With every product priced at $8 and Thread Beauty available exclusively at Target, the next time you find yourself in the beauty aisle, take another look. Sometimes a good brand doesn’t need to be reinvented. Sometimes it just needs to be rediscovered.
